Responsible Elephant Care on Koh Lanta
Today, we care for four female elephants: Linda, Pepsi, Prae and Jan, each with her own history, personality and daily needs.
Our Story
Our family began working with elephants when riding and performances were widely accepted in Thailand’s tourism industry. As our experience grew and understanding of elephant welfare developed, we listened, learned and reconsidered how visitors should meet elephants.
We moved away from riding and shows and developed visits centred on education, respect and responsible long-term care. This change required time, investment and commitment from our family and team. Our story continues through the care we provide today and our commitment to keep improving.
Our Approach to Elephant Care
We do not offer elephant riding or performances. Visitors can prepare food, feed the elephants, walk alongside them and learn about their behaviour with our experienced guides. Elephants are given space to move, rest and participate at their own pace. Activities involving water depend on the elephant’s comfort and conditions on the day and are never guaranteed.
Daily care includes suitable food, clean water and living areas, health monitoring and time to rest in natural surroundings. These domesticated elephants have lived alongside people; some previously worked in logging or tourism and cannot simply be released into the wild. They need appropriate lifelong care that respects their individual needs and allows natural behaviours.
Meet Our Care Team
Our mahouts care for the elephants every day, observing their behaviour, appetite and condition and building familiarity and trust. Our guides help visitors understand the elephants’ histories and daily needs, explain safety rules and encourage respectful interactions. Veterinary professionals support health checks, advice and treatment when needed.
Together, our team balances elephant welfare, visitor education and safety.

We are certified under Thailand’s Good Agricultural Practices for Elephant Camps.

This certification supports responsible standards for elephant management, animal health, staff practices, visitor safety and the camp environment. We continue to review and improve our daily care beyond the basic requirements of certification.
A Responsible Visitor Experience
A meaningful elephant experience begins with learning and respect. During your visit, our guides introduce the elephants’ backgrounds, behaviour, diet and daily needs, helping you understand why responsible long-term care matters.
Visitor income helps provide food, veterinary support and mahout employment, as well as staff training, transportation, maintenance and improvements to the elephants’ environment. Your visit supports both the elephants and a family-run local business on Koh Lanta.
