About Lanta Elephant Lover

Responsible Elephant Care on Koh Lanta

Lanta Elephant Lover, operated by Lanta Elephant Conservation, is a family-run elephant care centre on Koh Lanta. Our family has lived and worked alongside elephants for more than 20 years, passing experience, knowledge and responsibility from one generation to the next.

Today, we care for four female elephants—Linda, Pepsi, Prae and Jan. Each elephant has her own history, personality, preferences and daily needs. Our responsibility is to provide consistent care, suitable food, access to water and natural surroundings, professional health support and time to rest.

Our Approach to Elephant Care

Our approach is based on respect, patience and an understanding of each elephant as an individual.

We do not offer elephant riding or performances. Visitors are invited to meet the elephants, prepare food, feed them, walk alongside them and learn about their individual stories and behaviour from our experienced guides.

Elephants are given space to move, rest and participate at their own pace. Activities involving water depend on the elephant’s comfort and the conditions on the day and are never guaranteed.

Domesticated Elephants and Long-Term Care

The elephants in our care have lived alongside people for many generations. Some previously worked in logging or tourism and cannot simply be released into the wild.

They therefore require responsible, lifelong care from people who understand their behaviour, health and individual needs. Our mahouts care for the elephants every day and build relationships based on familiarity, observation and trust. Veterinary professionals support their health through regular checks and treatment whenever required.

Our goal is to provide a calm and appropriate environment where the elephants can express natural behaviours while receiving the protection and professional care they need.

Meet Our Care Team

Responsible elephant care depends on teamwork.

Our mahouts monitor each elephant’s behaviour, appetite and condition throughout the day. Our guides introduce visitors to the elephants respectfully, explain safety rules and help guests understand their history and daily care. Veterinary professionals provide additional health advice, examinations and treatment when necessary.

Together, the team works to balance elephant welfare, visitor education and safety.

GAP-Certified Elephant Camp

We are certified under Thailand’s Good Agricultural Practices for Elephant Camps.

Certification Number: 02-6413-81-530-080005
Certified by: Department of Livestock Development, Thailand
Valid until: 1 July 2028

This certification supports responsible standards for elephant management, animal health, staff practices, visitor safety and the camp environment. We continue to review and improve our daily care beyond the basic requirements of certification.

A Responsible Visitor Experience

We believe a meaningful elephant experience begins with learning and respect.

During your visit, our guides will explain the elephants’ backgrounds, behaviour, diet and daily needs. Guests can observe their different personalities and learn why responsible long-term care is necessary for domesticated elephants.

Every visit contributes to food, veterinary care, mahout support and the continued improvement of the elephants’ environment.
